During the mobilisation of 1939–1940, Dutch conscripts were called up for the front. This monument at the Catholic Cemetery commemorates the residents of Wijchen who lost their lives on the Grebbeberg during the May days of 1940. Of the six names listed, at least five are buried at the Dutch Military Cemetery on the Grebbeberg. The grave location of one person, G.W. Kloosterman, is unknown. Both can be found at the cemetery in Wijchen, on the fourth path on the right.

At the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Wijchen lies a mass grave of thirteen civilian victims who lost their lives during the bombing of Nijmegen on 22 February 1944. During this Allied bombing raid, nearly 800 people lost their lives and a large part of the city centre was destroyed. Most of the thirteen victims from Wijchen were on the bus at Stationsplein, waiting for the ‘all clear’ signal following the first air-raid siren.
