Mass grave of victims of the Nijmegen bombing
At the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Wijchen lies a mass grave of thirteen civilian victims who lost their lives during the bombing of Nijmegen on 22 February 1944. During this Allied bombing raid, nearly 800 people lost their lives and a large part of the city centre was destroyed. Most of the thirteen victims from Wijchen were on the bus at Stationsplein, waiting for the ‘all clear’ signal following the first air-raid siren.
